"You can't sell anything from an empty wagon." Perhaps no truer words were spoken by Speedway Motors founder "Speedy" Bill Smith, who started America's Oldest Speed Shop with his wife Joyce in 1952. Eventually, their four sons joined the family business, and 71 years later, three of them continue to grow the company and carry on Bill and Joyce's legacy. PRI sat down with Carson Smith—who now holds the reins alongside his brothers (and Speedway Motors co-owners) Craig and Clay Smith—during the most recent PRI Road Tour. PRI got a glimpse into how the manufacturer, retailer, and distributor creates its high-quality performance and racing products, plus a look around its Research & Development area. Speedway Motors also operates distribution centers across the nation.
